Rib Roast cooked in the Oven

Ingredients:

For Rib Roast:

  • 1 standing rib roast (bone-in or boneless), about 4-5 pounds
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Fresh herbs (rosemary, thyme, or sage) for seasoning

For Garlic Herb Butter:

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh herbs (rosemary, thyme, or sage)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Cooking Steps:

Step 1: Prepare Rib Roast

  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
  2. Bring the rib roast to room temperature by letting it sit out for about 1 hour.
  3. Pat the roast dry with paper towels.

Step 2: Season the Roast

  1. Rub the entire surface of the roast with olive oil.
  2. Season generously with salt and black pepper.
  3. Optionally, tie the roast with kitchen twine to help it maintain its shape during cooking.
  4. Place the roast, fat side up, on a rack in a roasting pan.

Step 3: Create Garlic Herb Butter

  1. In a bowl, mix softened butter, minced garlic, chopped fresh herbs, salt, and black pepper to create the garlic herb butter.

Step 4: Apply Garlic Herb Butter

  1. Spread the garlic herb butter evenly over the top of the rib roast.
  2. Insert a meat thermometer into the thickest part of the roast, avoiding contact with the bone.

Step 5: Roast in the Oven

  1. Place the roasting pan in the preheated oven.
  2. Roast the rib roast at 450°F (230°C) for 15 minutes to sear the exterior and develop a crust.
  3. Reduce the oven temperature to 325°F (163°C) and continue roasting until the internal temperature reaches your desired doneness. Use the meat thermometer to monitor doneness (for medium-rare, aim for 135°F or 57°C).

Step 6: Rest the Roast

  1. Once the roast reaches the desired doneness, remove it from the oven.
  2. Tent the roast loosely with aluminum foil and let it rest for about 15-20 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute, resulting in a juicy and tender roast.

Step 7: Carve and Serve

  1. Carve the rib roast into slices, cutting against the grain.
  2. Serve the Oven-Roasted Rib Roast with your favorite side dishes.

Enjoy the succulence and rich flavor of this Oven-Roasted Rib Roast for a special occasion or a delightful family dinner. The slow roasting method ensures a perfectly cooked roast with a beautiful crust and tender interior.
