Tofu Inasal Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 block firm tofu, pressed and cut into skewer-friendly cubes
  • For the Marinade:
    • 1/4 cup soy sauce
    • 1/4 cup cane vinegar
    • 1 tablespoon lemon or calamansi juice
    • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
    • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
    • 1 tablespoon minced ginger
    • 1 teaspoon annatto powder (achuete)
    • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
    • Salt to taste
    • Bamboo skewers, soaked in water

Cooking Steps:

Step 1: Prepare Marinade In a bowl, combine soy sauce, cane vinegar, lemon or calamansi juice, brown sugar, minced garlic, minced ginger, annatto powder, ground black pepper, and salt. Mix well to create the marinade.

Step 2: Marinate Tofu Place tofu cubes in a shallow dish or resealable bag. Pour the marinade over the tofu, ensuring each piece is well-coated. Marinate for at least 30 minutes or refrigerate for a more intense flavor.

Step 3: Skewer Tofu Thread marinated tofu cubes onto soaked bamboo skewers.

Step 4: Grill Preheat your grill or grill pan. Grill the tofu skewers, turning occasionally, until they have a nice char and are heated through.

Step 5: Baste with Marinade While grilling, baste the tofu with the remaining marinade to enhance the flavors.

Step 6: Serve Hot Once the tofu skewers are grilled to perfection, serve hot. Garnish with additional lemon or calamansi wedges if desired.
