Perfect Sushi Rice


  • 2 cups sushi rice
  • 2 1/2 cups water
  • 1/2 cup rice vinegar
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Cooking Steps:

  1. Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch and ensures a fluffy texture.
  2. Combine the rinsed rice and water in a rice cooker or a pot. Cook the rice according to the appliance or pot's instructions.
  3. While the rice is cooking, heat rice vinegar, sugar, and salt in a small saucepan over low heat. Stir until the sugar and salt dissolve. Allow it to cool.
  4. Once the rice is cooked, transfer it to a large bowl or a wooden sushi rice tub. While the rice is still hot, gently fold in the seasoned vinegar mixture using a wooden spatula or rice paddle.
  5. Be careful not to mash the rice; instead, use a folding motion to evenly distribute the vinegar mixture. Allow the rice to cool to room temperature.
