  • 1 cup milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Nutmeg (optional)

For Caramelized Topping:

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons water

Steps:

Caramelized Topping:

  1. In a saucepan, combine sugar and water over medium heat.
  2. Allow the sugar to dissolve and caramelize, swirling the pan occasionally to distribute the color evenly.

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add thinly sliced potatoes and cook until they are softened but not fully cooked.
  3. Season the potatoes with salt and pepper, and arrange them over the caramelized layer in the baking dish.
  4. Sprinkle shredded cheese over the potatoes.

Flan Layer:

  1. In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, salt, pepper, and nutmeg if using.
  2. Carefully pour the egg mixture over the potatoes and cheese.

Baking:

  1. Place the baking dish in a larger pan filled with hot water (bain-marie/water bath).
  2. Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 40-50 minutes or until the flan is set and golden on top.
  3. Allow the Potato Flan to cool slightly before slicing and serving.

Enjoy this unique and savory Potato Flan as a flavorful side dish or a light meal, bringing together the creamy goodness of potatoes with the indulgence of flan.
