Puff Pastry Apple Donuts: the Perfect Sweet Snack

Ingredients:

  • 1 sheet of puff pastry, thawed if frozen
  • 2 medium-sized apples, peeled, cored, and finely diced
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
  • Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Steps:

  1. Preheat your oven to the temperature specified on the puff pastry package instructions.
  2. In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add diced apples, brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and nutmeg if using. Sauté until the apples are tender and caramelized. Set aside to cool.
  3. Roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface to smooth out any seams.
  4. Using a round cutter or a glass, cut out circles from the puff pastry sheet.
  5. Place a spoonful of the cooled apple mixture onto the center of half of the puff pastry circles.
  6. Top each apple-covered circle with another puff pastry circle, creating a sandwich. Press the edges to seal.
  7. Use a smaller round cutter to cut a hole in the center of each donut to resemble a traditional donut shape.
  8. Place the assembled Puff Pastry Apple Donuts on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven according to the puff pastry package instructions or until the donuts are golden and puffed.
  10. Allow the donuts to cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar if desired.

Enjoy these Puff Pastry Apple Donuts warm as a delightful dessert or snack, combining the buttery layers of puff pastry with the sweet and spiced apple filling.
