Chana Dal Tadka And Jeera Rice

Chana Dal Tadka Ingredients:

  • 1 cup chana dal (split chickpeas), washed and soaked for a few hours
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tomato, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • Salt (to taste)
  • 2 tablespoons oil or ghee
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • Fresh coriander leaves, chopped (for garnish)

Jeera Rice Ingredients:

  • 1 cup basmati rice, washed and soaked for 30 minutes
  • 1 3/4 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons ghee
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • Salt (to taste)

Steps:

Chana Dal Tadka: Step 1: Cook the soaked chana dal with water until soft. Drain any excess water.

Step 2: In a pan, heat oil or ghee. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.

Step 3: Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown. Add ginger-garlic paste and cook until the raw aroma disappears.

Step 4: Stir in chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, and garam masala. Cook until the oil separates.

Step 5: Add the cooked chana dal and salt. Mix well and simmer for a few minutes.

Step 6: Garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving.

Jeera Rice: Step 1: In a pot, heat ghee. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.

Step 2: Drain the soaked basmati rice and add it to the pot. Sauté for a couple of minutes.

Step 3: Pour in water and add salt. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat, cover, and simmer until the rice is cooked and water is absorbed.

Serve the Chana Dal Tadka over aromatic Jeera Rice, and enjoy this flavorful and comforting Indian meal.
