Ingredients:

For Tofu Balls:

  1. 1 block firm tofu, pressed and drained
  2. 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  3. 1/4 cup finely chopped green onions
  4. 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  5. 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  6. 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  7. 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  8. 1/2 teaspoon ginger powder
  9. 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (for frying)

For Teriyaki Sauce:

  1. 1/4 cup soy sauce
  2. 2 tablespoons mirin
  3. 1 tablespoon sake (or white wine)
  4. 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  5. 1/2 teaspoon garlic, minced
  6. 1/2 teaspoon ginger, grated

Steps:

Tofu Balls: Step 1: In a large bowl, crumble the pressed tofu using your hands.

Step 2: Add breadcrumbs, chopped green onions, soy sauce, cornstarch, sesame oil, garlic powder, and ginger powder to the crumbled tofu. Mix well until the mixture holds together.

Step 3: Shape the mixture into bite-sized balls.

Step 4: Heat vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat. Fry the tofu balls until golden brown and crispy on all sides. Remove and set aside.

Teriyaki Sauce: Step 5: In a small saucepan, combine soy sauce, mirin, sake, brown sugar, minced garlic, and grated ginger.

Step 6: Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring continuously, until the sauce thickens slightly.

Step 7: Add the fried tofu balls to the teriyaki sauce, coating them evenly. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.

Step 8: Serve the Teriyaki Tofu Balls over rice or as an appetizer, garnished with additional green onions or sesame seeds if desired.
