  • 4 pork steaks
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 can (14 ounces) diced tomatoes

  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for heat)
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Calories: Approximately 350 kcal per serving.

Cooking Steps:

Step 1: Season the pork steaks with salt and black pepper. Dredge each steak in flour, shaking off excess.

Step 2: In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Brown the pork steaks on both sides until golden. Remove and set aside.

Step 3: In the same skillet, add a bit more oil if needed. Sauté sliced onions until softened, then add minced garlic and sliced bell pepper. Cook until vegetables are tender.

Step 4: Pour in diced tomatoes with their juice. Stir in dried thyme, paprika, and cayenne pepper (if using).

Step 5: Return the browned pork steaks to the skillet, nestling them into the vegetable mixture.

Step 6: Pour in the broth, ensuring the pork steaks are partially submerged. Bring to a simmer, then cover and let it simmer on low heat for 1 to 1.5 hours or until the pork is tender.

Step 7: Check and adjust seasoning if needed. If the gravy is too thin, you can cook uncovered for a few minutes to thicken.

Step 8: Garnish with fresh parsley if desired and serve the Smothered Pork Steaks with your favorite side, such as mashed potatoes or rice.
