Ingredients:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Red food coloring
  • Vegetable oil for frying

For Dusting or Drizzling:

  • Powdered sugar or cream cheese icing

Cooking Steps:

Step 1: In a saucepan, combine water, sugar, butter, cocoa powder, and salt. Bring to a boil, then remove from heat.

Step 2: Stir in the vanilla extract and red food coloring until well combined.

Step 3: Gradually add the flour, stirring continuously until a smooth dough forms.

Step 4: Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a star tip.

Step 5: Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan for frying. Pipe strips of the red velvet dough into the hot oil, cutting them with scissors into desired lengths.
