Simple Chocolate Flyover Cake Design

Ingredients:

For the Cake:

  • 1 and 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water

For the Chocolate Ganache (optional):

  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate, chopped

Instructions:

For the Cake:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and cocoa powder.
  3. Add sugar, eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until well combined.
  4. Gradually add boiling water to the batter, mixing on low speed. The batter will be thin, but that's okay.
  5. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

For the Chocolate Ganache (optional):

  1. In a saucepan, heat the heavy cream until it just begins to simmer.
  2. Remove from heat and add the chopped semisweet chocolate. Let it sit for a minute, then stir until smooth and glossy.

Assembly:

  1. Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate.
  2. Pour a layer of chocolate ganache over the top of the first cake layer, allowing it to drip down the sides.
  3. Place the second cake layer on top.
  4. Optionally, frost the entire cake with additional chocolate ganache.
  5. Slice and serve this Simple Chocolate Flyover Cake.
