Chana Masala

Chana Masala

Ingredients:

  • 2 cans (15 oz each) chickpeas, drained and rinsed
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch piece of ginger, grated
  • 2 large tomatoes, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon ground paprika
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped (for garnish)
  • Lemon wedges (for serving)

Cooking Steps:

Step 1: In a large skillet or pan, heat vegetable oil over medium heat.

Step 2: Add finely chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.

Step 3: Add minced garlic and grated ginger to the onions. Sauté for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

Step 4: Add finely chopped tomatoes to the skillet. Cook until the tomatoes are soft and the oil begins to separate.

Step 5: Stir in ground cumin, ground coriander, turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala, ground paprika, and salt. Mix well to combine.

Step 6: Add the drained and rinsed chickpeas to the spice mixture. Stir to coat the chickpeas evenly with the spices.

Step 7: Cook the Chana Masala for about 10-15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the chickpeas to absorb the spices.

Step 8: If needed, adjust the salt and spice levels according to your taste.

Step 9: Garnish the Chana Masala with freshly chopped cilantro.

Step 10: Serve the Chana Masala hot, accompanied by rice, naan, or your preferred choice of bread.

Step 11: Optionally, provide lemon wedges for a burst of citrus flavor.

Indulge in the savory and aromatic delight of Chana Masala, a beloved Indian dish that's hearty, nutritious, and bursting with spices.
