Asian Cabbage Salad

When you think of a cabbage salad, the first thing that usually comes to mind is a coleslaw. But not every cabbage salad is coleslaw, this salad, is an Asian-style cabbage salad. This Asian cabbage salad is dressed with sesame dressing and it's crunchy and full of flavor. So next time you have cabbage and you are planning to make a salad, try this recipe and you'll be surprised how good is this salad.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cabbage, small-medium
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) soy sauce
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons Rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons Vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons Sesame seed oil
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons Sugar, white/brown
  • 2-3 tablespoons Sesame seeds

Optional:

  • Red chili
  • Carrot
  • Daikon radish

Directions:

1. Peel the outer leaves of the cabbage, then cut the cabbage into quarters. Trim the core.
2. Slice the cabbage very thinly and transfer into a large bowl.
3. In a separate bowl whisk all sauce ingredients: soy sauce, rice vinegar, vegetable oil, sesame oil and sugar. Whisk well.
4. Pour the sauce over the salad and mix well. Press the cabbage with your hands to fully cover.
5. Toast the sesame seeds over low-medium heat for 2-3 minutes.
6. Sprinkle the sesame seeds over the salad and serve.

Optional additions:

• Slice 1-2 carrots very thinly and add to the salad.
• Slice red hot chili pepper and add the salad.
• Slice 1 daikon radish very thinly and add to the salad.
