Fried Rice
Fried rice is a versatile and delicious dish that can be customized with your favorite ingredients. It's a great way to use leftover rice and incorporate various vegetables, protein, and seasonings. Here's a basic recipe for fried rice:
Ingredients:
- 3 cups cooked rice (preferably day-old rice)
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup diced vegetables (such as carrots, peas, bell peppers, corn, or broccoli)
- 2 eggs, lightly beaten
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional)
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Green onions, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions:
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion to the skillet and sauté until it becomes translucent.
- Add the minced garlic and diced vegetables to the skillet and stir-fry for a few minutes until the vegetables are tender-crisp.
- Push the vegetables to one side of the skillet and pour the beaten eggs into the empty space. Allow them to cook for a few seconds until they start to set, then scramble them using a spatula and mix them with the vegetables.
- Add the cooked rice to the skillet and stir-fry everything together, breaking up any clumps of rice.
- Drizzle the soy sauce and oyster sauce (if using) over the rice and continue to stir-fry for a few more minutes, ensuring the sauce is evenly distributed and coats the rice.
- Add sesame oil to the skillet and season with salt and pepper to taste. Adjust the seasoning and sauces according to your preference.
- Remove the skillet from the heat and garnish the fried rice with chopped green onions.
- Serve the fried rice hot as a main dish or as a side dish with your favorite Asian-inspired meal.
Feel free to customize your fried rice by adding cooked protein such as diced chicken, shrimp, or tofu. You can also experiment with additional seasonings and spices to suit your taste.
Enjoy your homemade fried rice, a versatile and delicious dish that can be enjoyed any time!
