Tarte Tatin

Tarte Tatin

Tarte Tatin is a classic French dessert that features caramelized apples baked in a buttery pastry crust. Here's a recipe to make this delicious dessert:

Ingredients:

  • 6-8 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • Whipped cream or vanilla ice cream, for serving

Instructions:

1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

2. In a 9-inch oven-safe skillet or a Tarte Tatin dish, melt the butter over medium heat.

3. Add the granulated sugar and vanilla extract to the skillet and stir to combine.

4. Add the sliced apples to the skillet and stir to coat with the butter-sugar mixture.

5. Cook the apples, stirring occasionally, for about 10-12 minutes or until they are tender and caramelized.

6. Sprinkle the cinnamon and nutmeg over the apples and stir to combine.

7. Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface to fit the size of the skillet.

8. Carefully lay the puff pastry over the apples, tucking in the edges around the sides of the skillet.

9. Use a sharp knife to make a few slits in the top of the pastry to allow steam to escape.

10. Bake the Tarte Tatin for 30-35 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed.

11. Remove the Tarte Tatin from the oven and let it cool for 5-10 minutes.

12. To serve, carefully invert the Tarte Tatin onto a serving platter or individual plates.

13. Serve the Tarte Tatin warm, topped with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
