Ingredients:
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar (optional)
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Chopped fresh chives for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
- Caramelize Onions:
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-low heat. Add thinly sliced onions and cook slowly, stirring occasionally, until they become soft, golden brown, and caramelized. This process may take about 20-30 minutes.
- Deglaze with Balsamic Vinegar (Optional):
- If using, add balsamic vinegar to the caramelized onions, stirring to deglaze the pan. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes. This step adds extra depth of flavor.
- Cool Onions:
- Allow the caramelized onions to cool to room temperature.
- Prepare Dip Base:
- In a mixing bowl, combine sour cream, mayonnaise, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
- Add Caramelized Onions:
- Fold in the cooled caramelized onions into the sour cream and mayonnaise mixture.
