  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Chopped fresh chives for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Caramelize Onions:
    • In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-low heat. Add thinly sliced onions and cook slowly, stirring occasionally, until they become soft, golden brown, and caramelized. This process may take about 20-30 minutes.
  2. Deglaze with Balsamic Vinegar (Optional):
    • If using, add balsamic vinegar to the caramelized onions, stirring to deglaze the pan. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes. This step adds extra depth of flavor.
  3. Cool Onions:
    • Allow the caramelized onions to cool to room temperature.
  4. Prepare Dip Base:
    • In a mixing bowl, combine sour cream, mayonnaise, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  5. Add Caramelized Onions:
    • Fold in the cooled caramelized onions into the sour cream and mayonnaise mixture.
  6. Chill:
    • Cover the bowl and refrigerate the dip for at least 1-2 hours to allow the flavors to meld.
  7. Garnish and Serve:
    • Before serving, garnish with chopped fresh chives if desired.
  8. Serve with Chips or Vegetables:
    • Serve the caramelized onion dip with your favorite chips, crackers, or vegetable sticks.
