Decorating Steps:

Step 1: Bake and Frost the Cake

  1. Bake your favorite cake according to the recipe or package instructions.
  2. Allow the cake layers to cool completely.
  3. Prepare buttercream frosting by beating softened butter until creamy, then gradually add powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract. Divide the frosting into six bowls.

Step 2: Color the Buttercream Frosting

  1. Add different food coloring to each bowl of frosting to create red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple colors.
  2. Stir until the colors are well incorporated.

Step 3: Frost the Cake Layers

  1. Place the first cake layer on a serving plate or cake stand.
  2. Spread a thin layer of white buttercream over the cake.
  3. Add the colored frostings in a rainbow pattern, starting with red at the bottom and ending with purple at the top.
  4. Repeat with the remaining cake layers.

Step 4: Crumb Coat the Cake

  1. Apply a crumb coat of white buttercream over the entire cake.
  2. Chill the cake in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes.

Step 5: Apply Final Coat of Buttercream

  1. Apply a final coat of white buttercream over the chilled crumb coat to create a smooth surface.

Step 6: KitKat Border

  1. Gently press KitKat bars around the sides of the cake, ensuring they stick to the buttercream.
  2. Tie a ribbon around the KitKats to secure them in place.

Step 7: Roll Out White Fondant

  1. Roll out white fondant on a surface dusted with powdered sugar.
  2. Carefully drape the fondant over the top of the cake, smoothing it down and trimming any excess.

Step 8: Color Fondant for Rainbow Decorations

  1. Divide small portions of fondant into six balls.
  2. Color each ball with food coloring to match the rainbow colors.

Step 9: Create Rainbow Fondant Decorations

  1. Roll out each colored fondant ball into thin strips.
  2. Arrange the strips on top of the fondant-covered cake in a rainbow pattern.
  3. Optionally, add edible glitter or sprinkles for extra decoration.

Step 10: Chill and Serve Refrigerate the Rainbow KitKat Fondant Cake for at least 1 hour before serving to set the decorations. Slice and enjoy the vibrant and delicious creation!
