Decorating Steps:
Step 1: Bake and Frost the Cake
- Bake your favorite cake according to the recipe or package instructions.
- Allow the cake layers to cool completely.
- Prepare buttercream frosting by beating softened butter until creamy, then gradually add powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract. Divide the frosting into six bowls.
Step 2: Color the Buttercream Frosting
- Add different food coloring to each bowl of frosting to create red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple colors.
- Stir until the colors are well incorporated.
Step 3: Frost the Cake Layers
- Place the first cake layer on a serving plate or cake stand.
- Spread a thin layer of white buttercream over the cake.
- Add the colored frostings in a rainbow pattern, starting with red at the bottom and ending with purple at the top.
- Repeat with the remaining cake layers.
Step 4: Crumb Coat the Cake
- Apply a crumb coat of white buttercream over the entire cake.
- Chill the cake in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes.
Step 5: Apply Final Coat of Buttercream
- Apply a final coat of white buttercream over the chilled crumb coat to create a smooth surface.
Step 6: KitKat Border
- Gently press KitKat bars around the sides of the cake, ensuring they stick to the buttercream.
- Tie a ribbon around the KitKats to secure them in place.
Step 7: Roll Out White Fondant
- Roll out white fondant on a surface dusted with powdered sugar.
- Carefully drape the fondant over the top of the cake, smoothing it down and trimming any excess.
Step 8: Color Fondant for Rainbow Decorations
- Divide small portions of fondant into six balls.
- Color each ball with food coloring to match the rainbow colors.
Step 9: Create Rainbow Fondant Decorations
- Roll out each colored fondant ball into thin strips.
- Arrange the strips on top of the fondant-covered cake in a rainbow pattern.
- Optionally, add edible glitter or sprinkles for extra decoration.
Step 10: Chill and Serve Refrigerate the Rainbow KitKat Fondant Cake for at least 1 hour before serving to set the decorations. Slice and enjoy the vibrant and delicious creation!
This Rainbow KitKat Fondant Cake is a visually stunning and tasty treat that will impress your guests at any celebration. The combination of colorful frosting, KitKat border, and fondant decorations makes it a true centerpiece for your dessert table.
