Cacao Orange Shortbread

Ingredients

  1. 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  2. 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  3. 2 cups all-purpose flour
  4. 1/4 cup cacao powder
  5. Zest of 1 orange
  6. 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  7. Pinch of salt

Optional Glaze:

  1. 1 cup powdered sugar
  2. 2 tablespoons fresh orange juice

Steps

Step 1: In a large bowl, cream together softened butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy.

Step 2: Add the vanilla extract, cacao powder, orange zest, and a pinch of salt. Mix until well combined.

Step 3: Gradually add the all-purpose flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.

Step 4: Divide the dough in half and shape each portion into a log. Wrap the logs in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

Step 5: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 6: Slice the chilled dough logs into rounds and place them on the prepared baking sheet.

Step 7: Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the edges are set. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.

Optional Glaze: Step 8: In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar and fresh orange juice until smooth.

Step 9: Drizzle the glaze over the cooled shortbread cookies.
