Crunchy Miso Glazed Tofu
Enjoy your homemade Crunchy Miso Glazed Tofu – it's a delightful combination of crispy tofu with a savory and slightly sweet miso glaze!
Ingredients:
For the Tofu:
- 1 block of extra-firm tofu
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
For the Miso Glaze:
- 3 tablespoons white miso paste
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons mirin (sweet rice wine)
- 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger
- 1 clove garlic, minced
Instructions:
Prepping the Tofu:
- Start by pressing the tofu to remove excess water. You can use a tofu press or wrap the tofu block in a clean kitchen towel and place something heavy on top. Let it press for about 20-30 minutes.
- Once pressed, cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes.
- In a large bowl, toss the tofu cubes with cornstarch until they are well coated.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large non-stick skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat.
- Add the tofu cubes to the hot oil and cook them until they are golden brown and crispy on all sides. This should take about 5-7 minutes. Season with salt and pepper and then transfer the tofu to a plate.
Making the Miso Glaze:
- In a small saucepan, combine white miso paste, soy sauce, mirin, honey or maple syrup, grated ginger, and minced garlic.
- Cook the mixture over low heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens and becomes a glossy glaze. This should take about 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat.
Coating the Tofu:
- Drizzle the miso glaze over the crispy tofu cubes and gently toss to coat them evenly.
- Make sure the tofu is well coated with the delicious miso glaze.
Serving:
- Serve the Crunchy Miso Glazed Tofu over a bed of cooked rice or noodles.
- Garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions for added flavor and presentation.
