Crunchy Miso Glazed Tofu

Enjoy your homemade Crunchy Miso Glazed Tofu – it's a delightful combination of crispy tofu with a savory and slightly sweet miso glaze!

Ingredients:

For the Tofu:

  • 1 block of extra-firm tofu
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Miso Glaze:

  • 3 tablespoons white miso paste
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons mirin (sweet rice wine)
  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1 clove garlic, minced

Instructions:

Prepping the Tofu:

  1. Start by pressing the tofu to remove excess water. You can use a tofu press or wrap the tofu block in a clean kitchen towel and place something heavy on top. Let it press for about 20-30 minutes.
  2. Once pressed, cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes.
  3. In a large bowl, toss the tofu cubes with cornstarch until they are well coated.
  4. Heat the vegetable oil in a large non-stick skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat.
  5. Add the tofu cubes to the hot oil and cook them until they are golden brown and crispy on all sides. This should take about 5-7 minutes. Season with salt and pepper and then transfer the tofu to a plate.

Making the Miso Glaze:

  1. In a small saucepan, combine white miso paste, soy sauce, mirin, honey or maple syrup, grated ginger, and minced garlic.
  2. Cook the mixture over low heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens and becomes a glossy glaze. This should take about 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat.

Coating the Tofu:

  1. Drizzle the miso glaze over the crispy tofu cubes and gently toss to coat them evenly.
  2. Make sure the tofu is well coated with the delicious miso glaze.

Serving:

  1. Serve the Crunchy Miso Glazed Tofu over a bed of cooked rice or noodles.
  2. Garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions for added flavor and presentation.
