Savory Garland
Elevate your Christmas table with a delectable recipe!
INGREDIENTS:
For the Dough:
- 170ml (3/4 cup) soy milk
- 12g dry yeast
- 30g (1/4 cup) sugar
- 390g (3 1/4 cups) all-purpose flour
- Dried herbs
- A pinch of salt
- 70g (1/4 cup) butter
For Basil Pesto:
- 40g macadamias
- 30g (3 tbsp) nutritional yeast
- 2 cloves of garlic
- Salt
- 50g basil
- Lemon juice
- 60ml (1/4 cup) olive oil
Additional:
- Butter for brushing
- Cherry tomatoes
METHOD:
- In a bowl, combine soy milk, yeast, and sugar. Mix well. Add flour, dried herbs, salt, and butter. Continue mixing. Once the dough forms, knead it by hand until smooth. Cover with cling film and let it rise for 90 minutes.
- Toast macadamias in a pan until fragrant.
- In a food processor, combine toasted macadamias, nutritional yeast, garlic, salt, basil, lemon juice, and olive oil. Blend until well combined.
- After the dough has risen, punch out the gas and roll it out. Spread the pesto on two-thirds of the dough and fold the remaining third over the top, sealing the edges.
- Cut the dough into 3 large strips. Braid the strips starting from the middle. Ensure the edges are closed well.
- Transfer the braided dough to a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Cover with a cloth and let it rise for 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 180°C/360°F. Bake the garland for 30 minutes.
- Transfer the garland to a serving plate, brush with butter, and decorate with cherry tomatoes and macadamias.
