Perfect Heart-Shaped Apple Pie

Ingredients: For the Pie Crust:

  1. 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  2. 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
  3. 1 teaspoon sugar
  4. 1/2 teaspoon salt
  5. 1/2 cup ice water

For the Apple Filling:

  1. 4-5 large apples (peeled, cored, and thinly sliced)
  2. 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  3. 1/4 cup brown sugar
  4. 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  5. 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  6. 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  7. 2 tablespoons cornstarch

For Assembly:

  1. 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
  2. Sugar (for sprinkling)

Steps:

Pie Crust: Step 1: In a food processor, pulse together flour, sugar, and salt. Add chilled butter and pulse until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Step 2: Gradually add ice water, one tablespoon at a time, until the dough comes together. Divide the dough in half, shape into discs, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

Apple Filling: Step 3: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 4: In a bowl, combine sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and cornstarch. Toss until the apples are evenly coated.

Assembling and Baking: Step 5: Roll out one disc of pie crust on a floured surface. Cut out two large heart shapes for the top and bottom crust.

Step 6: Place the bottom crust in a heart-shaped pie dish. Fill with the apple mixture.

Step 7: Top with the second heart-shaped crust. Seal the edges and crimp with a fork.

Step 8: Brush the top crust with beaten egg and sprinkle with sugar.

Step 9: Cut a few small slits on top to allow steam to escape.

Step 10: Bake for 45-50 minutes or until the crust is golden brown, and the filling is bubbly.

Step 11: Allow the Heart-Shaped Apple Pie to cool before serving.
