Valentines Day Macarons
Ingredients:
For the Macarons:
- 1 cup almond flour
- 1 3/4 cups powdered sugar
- 3 large egg whites, room temperature
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- Red or pink food coloring
For the Filling:
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Strawberry or raspberry jam for filling (optional)
Decorating Supplies:
- Heart-shaped macaron template (if needed)
- Piping bag with a round tip
- Food coloring gel pens (for decorating)
Baking Steps:
Step 1: Line baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone mats. If using a template, place it under the parchment paper.
Step 2: In a food processor, combine almond flour and powdered sugar. Pulse until well combined.
Step 3: In a large, clean bowl, whip egg whites until soft peaks form. Gradually add granulated sugar and continue whipping until glossy stiff peaks are formed.
Step 4: Gently fold the almond flour mixture into the egg whites, adding food coloring until the desired shade is reached.
Step 5: Transfer the batter to a piping bag with a round tip. Pipe rounds onto the prepared baking sheets according to the heart-shaped template.
Step 6: Tap the baking sheets on the counter to release air bubbles. Let the macarons rest for about 20-30 minutes until a skin forms.
Step 7: Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C) and bake the macarons for 15-18 minutes, rotating the sheets halfway through.
Step 8: Allow the macarons to cool completely before removing them from the baking sheets.
Step 9: While the macarons cool, prepare the filling by beating together softened butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Optionally, add strawberry or raspberry jam for extra flavor.
Step 10: Once the macarons are cooled, pipe or spread the filling on one shell and sandwich it with another.
Step 11: Decorate the top of each macaron with food coloring gel pens to add a personalized touch.
Step 12: Allow the filled macarons to rest in the refrigerator for a few hours before serving.
These Valentine’s Day Macarons are a sweet and thoughtful way to express your love. Enjoy these delightful treats with your special someone!
