Moist and Spicy Cinnamon Apple Cake
Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 2 cups finely chopped apples (peeled and cored)
For Cinnamon Sugar Topping:
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Cooking Steps:
Step 1: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13-inch baking pan.
Step 2: In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt. Set aside.
Step 3: In a large bowl, cream together softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
Step 4: Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
Step 5: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the applesauce, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
Step 6: Fold in the finely chopped apples until evenly distributed in the batter.
Step 7: Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly.
Cinnamon Sugar Topping:
Step 8: In a small bowl, combine granulated sugar and ground cinnamon for the topping.
Step 9: Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture over the top of the cake batter.
Step 10: Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Step 11: Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 15 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
