Perfect Cruffins At Home
Ingredients:
For the Dough:
- 2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm milk
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, cold
For the Filling:
- Your choice of jam, pastry cream, chocolate, or Nutella
For the Topping:
- Powdered sugar
- Optional: sliced almonds, chopped nuts, or sprinkles
Cooking Steps:
- In a bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Pour in the yeast mixture and mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth. Cover and let it rise until doubled in size (1-2 hours).
- Roll out the dough into a rectangle and fold it into thirds. Repeat this process twice more, then refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- Roll out the dough again and cut it into squares. Place a dollop of your chosen filling in the center of each square.
- Roll each square into a log shape, creating the cruffin. Place them in a muffin tin.
- Allow the cruffins to rise for another 30-45 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake the cruffins for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
- Allow them to cool slightly, then dust with powdered sugar and add optional toppings.
