Ingredients:

For the Meatballs:

  • 1 lb ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork)
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 large egg
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Marinara Sauce:

  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup tomato paste
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and sugar to taste

Other Ingredients:

  • Sub rolls or baguette
  • Mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • Fresh basil or parsley for garnish

Steps:

Meatballs:

Step 1: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2: In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, chopped parsley, minced garlic, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.

Step 3: Form the mixture into meatballs of your desired size and place them on a baking sheet.

Step 4: Bake the meatballs in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until cooked through.

Marinara Sauce:

Step 5: In a saucepan, combine crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, minced garlic, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and a pinch of sugar. Simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Assembly:

Step 6: Once the meatballs are done, place them in the marinara sauce and let them simmer for an additional 10 minutes to absorb the flavors.

Step 7: Slice the sub rolls or baguette, and place a few meatballs along with some sauce inside.

Step 8: Top with shredded mozzarella cheese.

Step 9: Broil the Meatball Subs in the oven until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Step 10: Garnish with fresh basil or parsley before serving.
