The Best Steak on the Grill
Ingredients:
- Steak cuts of your choice (e.g., ribeye, sirloin, or filet mignon)
- Olive oil (2 tablespoons)
- Salt (to taste)
- Black pepper (to taste)
- Garlic powder (1 teaspoon)
- Onion powder (1 teaspoon)
- Paprika (1 teaspoon)
- Optional: Fresh herbs (rosemary or thyme), for extra flavor
Instructions:
- Prepare the Steak:
- Take the steak out of the refrigerator and let it come to room temperature for about 30 minutes.
- Preheat the Grill:
- Preheat your grill to high heat. Ensure the grates are clean and well-oiled to prevent sticking.
- Season the Steak:
- Rub the steak with olive oil, ensuring it's evenly coated. Season generously with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika. If using fresh herbs, sprinkle them over the steak.
- Grill Setup:
- For a gas grill, keep one side on high heat and the other on medium. For a charcoal grill, create a hot zone and a cooler zone by spreading the coals unevenly.
- Sear the Steak:
- Place the steak on the hot side of the grill to sear. Sear for 2-3 minutes per side until a golden-brown crust forms.
- Move to Indirect Heat:
- Move the seared steak to the cooler side of the grill (indirect heat). Close the lid and continue grilling to reach the desired doneness.
- Check Doneness:
- Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature:
- Rare: 120-130°F (49-54°C)
- Medium Rare: 130-140°F (54-60°C)
- Medium: 140-150°F (60-66°C)
- Medium Well: 150-160°F (66-71°C)
- Well Done: 160°F and above (71°C+)
- Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature:
- Rest the Steak:
- Once the steak reaches the desired doneness, remove it from the grill and let it rest for 5-10 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute, resulting in a juicier steak.
- Slice and Serve:
- Slice the steak against the grain into portions and serve immediately.
- Optional: Baste with Butter:
- For added richness, baste the steak with melted butter during the resting period.
Tips:
- Use a quality steak with good marbling for the best flavor.
- Experiment with different wood chips or charcoal for additional smokiness.
- Adjust seasonings to your taste preferences.
