Italian Style Chopped Sandwich

Ingredients:

  • 1 baguette or Italian roll
  • 4 oz (about 113g) Italian salami, thinly sliced
  • 4 oz (about 113g) ham, thinly sliced
  • 4 oz (about 113g) provolone cheese, sliced
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1/2 cup black olives, sliced
  • 1/4 cup red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup banana peppers, sliced
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • Olive oil
  • Balsamic glaze (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Cut the baguette or Italian roll in half lengthwise.
  2. Layer the Italian salami, ham, and provolone cheese on the bottom half of the bread.
  3. Top the meats and cheese with cherry tomatoes, black olives, red onion, banana peppers, and fresh basil leaves.
  4. Drizzle olive oil over the toppings and season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  5. Place the top half of the bread on the sandwich.
  6. Press down on the sandwich slightly and wrap it tightly in parchment paper or foil.
  7. Allow the sandwich to sit for a few minutes to let the flavors meld.
  8. Optionally, drizzle with balsamic glaze before serving.
  9. Slice the sandwich into smaller portions, if desired.
