Meatballs & Sunday Sauce

Ingredients

For Meatballs:

  1. 1 lb ground beef
  2. 1/2 lb ground pork
  3. 1 cup breadcrumbs
  4. 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  5. 2 cloves garlic, minced
  6. 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  7. 2 large eggs
  8. Salt and pepper to taste
  9. Olive oil for frying

For Sunday Sauce:

  1. 2 cans (28 oz each) crushed tomatoes
  2. 1 can (6 oz) tomato paste
  3. 1 onion, finely chopped
  4. 3 cloves garlic, minced
  5. 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
  6. 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  7. 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  8. 1 teaspoon sugar
  9. Salt and pepper to taste
  10. Olive oil for sautéing

Steps

For Meatballs: Step 1: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan, minced garlic, chopped parsley, eggs, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.

Step 2: Form the mixture into meatballs, about 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter.

Step 3: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Brown the meatballs on all sides, then transfer to a plate.

For Sunday Sauce: Step 4: In the same skillet, add more olive oil if needed. Sauté chopped onion until softened.

Step 5: Add minced garlic and cook until fragrant.

Step 6: Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, chopped basil, chopped parsley, dried oregano, sugar, salt, and pepper. Mix well.

Step 7: Bring the sauce to a simmer, then add the browned meatballs.

Step 8: Cover and let the sauce simmer for at least 1-2 hours, stirring occasionally.

Serve the Meatballs & Sunday Sauce over your favorite pasta or with crusty Italian bread for a hearty and delicious meal. Enjoy!
