Gyoza Made with Wonton Wrappers
Ingredients:
- 1 pack of wonton wrappers (round or square)
- 1/2 lb ground pork or chicken
- 1 cup cabbage, finely chopped
- 2 green onions, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Water (for sealing gyoza)
Dipping Sauce:
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- Optional: chopped green onions and chili flakes
Preparation:
Step 1: Prepare Filling In a bowl, combine ground meat, chopped cabbage, green onions, minced garlic, grated ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, sugar, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
Step 2: Assemble Gyoza Place a small spoonful of the filling in the center of a wonton wrapper. Dip your finger in water and moisten the edges of the wrapper. Fold the wrapper in half, forming a half-moon shape, and press the edges to seal.
Step 3: Pleat and Seal Starting from one end, pleat the edge of the wrapper and press to seal, creating a crescent shape. Repeat with the remaining wrappers and filling.
Step 4: Pan-Fry Gyoza Heat a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Add a small amount of oil. Place gyoza in the skillet, flat side down. Cook until the bottom is golden brown.
Step 5: Steam and Crisp Add water to the skillet, cover with a lid, and steam the gyoza for a few minutes until they are cooked through. Remove the lid and let them continue cooking until the bottoms become crispy.
Step 6: Prepare Dipping Sauce While the gyoza cook, mix together soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and any optional ingredients for the dipping sauce.
Step 7: Serve Hot Serve the Wonton Wrapper Gyoza hot with the dipping sauce on the side.
