Ingredients:

  1. 2 cups basmati rice (400 kcal)
  2. 500g crab, cleaned and cracked
  3. 1 cup yogurt
  4. 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  5. 3 tomatoes, chopped
  6. 1/4 cup cooking oil
  7. 2 tablespoons ghee
  8. 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  9. 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  10. 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  11. 1 teaspoon garam masala
  12. 1 teaspoon biryani masala
  13. Fresh coriander and mint leaves for garnish
  14. Salt to taste

Instructions:

Step 1: Marinate the Crab

  • In a bowl, mix yogurt, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt.
  • Marinate the crab in this mixture for at least 30 minutes.

Step 2: Sauté Aromatics

  • In a large pot, heat oil and ghee.
  • Sauté sliced onions until golden brown.
  • Add ginger-garlic paste and cook until the raw aroma disappears.

Step 3: Add Tomatoes and Spices

  • Stir in chopped tomatoes and cook until softened.
  • Add garam masala, biryani masala, and adjust salt to taste.

Step 4: Cook Crab

  • Add the marinated crab to the pot. Cook until the crab is partially done.

Step 5: Layering Rice and Crab

  • Parboil basmati rice and layer it over the partially cooked crab.
  • Sprinkle ghee and garnish with fresh coriander and mint leaves.

Step 6: Dum Cooking

  • Cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid. Cook on low heat for 20-25 minutes.

Step 7: Serve and Enjoy

  • Gently fluff the Crab Biryani with a fork.
