Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 and 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • Colorful sprinkles (optional)

Steps:

Step 1: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

Step 2: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

Step 3: Add buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until well combined.

Step 4: Gradually add boiling water to the batter, stirring continuously. The batter will be thin, but that's normal.

Step 5: Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

Step 6: Allow the cakes to cool completely before frosting. Optionally, decorate with colorful sprinkles for a festive touch.
