Filet-O-Fish Sandwich

Ingredients:

For the Fish Fillet:

  • 4 fish fillets (cod, haddock, or another white fish)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • Vegetable oil for frying

For the Tartar Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons sweet pickle relish
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped onion
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon capers, chopped (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For Assembling:

  • 4 hamburger buns
  • Lettuce leaves
  • Sliced American cheese (optional)

Instructions:

For the Fish Fillet:

  1. In a shallow dish, mix together flour, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika.
  2. Pat the fish fillets dry with paper towels.
  3. Dredge each fillet in the seasoned flour mixture, ensuring they are well coated.
  4. In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
  5. Fry the fish fillets for 3-4 minutes per side or until they are golden brown and cooked through.
  6. Place the fried fish fillets on a paper towel-lined plate to absorb excess oil.

For the Tartar Sauce:

  1. In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, sweet pickle relish, chopped onion, lemon juice, and capers. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Mix well.

For Assembling the Sandwich:

  1. Toast the hamburger buns until golden.
  2. Spread tartar sauce on both halves of each bun.
  3. Place a lettuce leaf on the bottom half of each bun.
  4. Put a fried fish fillet on top of the lettuce.
  5. Optionally, add a slice of American cheese on top of the fish fillet.
  6. Top with the other half of the bun.
  7. Serve your homemade Filet-O-Fish sandwiches and enjoy the crispy and flavorful delight!
