Asian Style Soy Sauce Tofu
Ingredients:
- 1 block extra-firm tofu, pressed and cut into cubes
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon mirin (sweet rice wine) or dry sherry
- 2 teaspoons brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons water
- Green onions and sesame seeds for garnish (optional)
- Cooking oil for frying
Instructions:
- Press the tofu to remove excess moisture. Cut the tofu into cubes of your desired size.
- In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, mirin, brown sugar, grated ginger, and minced garlic to create the marinade.
- Place the tofu cubes in a shallow dish or a zip-top bag and pour the marinade over them. Ensure the tofu is well-coated. Allow it to marinate for at least 30 minutes, or longer for more flavor.
- In a small bowl, mix cornstarch and water to create a slurry.
- Heat cooking oil in a skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
- Remove the tofu cubes from the marinade and add them to the hot pan. Reserve the marinade for later.
- Cook the tofu cubes until they are golden brown and crispy on all sides.
- Once the tofu is cooked, add the reserved marinade to the pan. Pour in the cornstarch slurry and stir gently to coat the tofu. Allow the sauce to thicken.
- Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds if desired.
Serve Asian Style Soy Sauce Tofu over rice or alongside your favorite vegetables for a delicious and satisfying Asian-inspired dish!
