Miniature Fish Puttu

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup cooked and shredded fish (boneless)
  • 1 cup fresh grated coconut
  • 1 cup finely chopped onions
  • 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon urad dal (black gram)
  • 1 teaspoon curry leaves, chopped
  • 2-3 green chilies, finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Coconut oil for cooking
  • Miniature idli molds or small serving cups

Instructions:

  1. In a pan, heat coconut oil over medium heat. Add mustard seeds and urad dal. Allow them to splutter.
  2. Add chopped onions, ginger-garlic paste, chopped green chilies, and curry leaves. Sauté until onions become translucent.
  3. Add turmeric powder and salt. Mix well.
  4. Stir in the shredded fish and cook for a few minutes until the fish is well combined with the spices.
  5. Add fresh grated coconut to the mixture and continue to cook for another 2-3 minutes. Adjust salt to taste.
  6. Remove the mixture from heat and let it cool slightly.
  7. Grease miniature idli molds or small serving cups with coconut oil.
  8. Spoon the fish and coconut mixture into each mold, pressing it gently to ensure it takes the shape.
  9. Steam the miniature fish puttu in a steamer for about 10-12 minutes or until they are cooked through.
  10. Allow them to cool slightly before unmolding.
  11. Serve these delightful miniature fish puttu as appetizers or snacks. Enjoy the burst of flavors in every bite!
